History
Manna Lal Roy, founder of Tajhat zamindar dynasty. He came to Punjab from Rangpur and settled in Mahiganj. At that time Mahiganj was the district town of Rangpur. It is alleged that due to the attractive 'Taj' and 'Ratna' crown of gold trader Manna Lal Roy, this area was named after Tajhat. During his lifetime, he became the owner of a huge amount of land. Upendra Lal Roy, grandson of Dhanpati Rai, died at an early age after receiving zamindari. Then the zamindari's responsibility came to his uncle, Munsif Giridhari Lal Rai. As a child, he adopted Govinda Lal of Calcutta as adoptive.

Govinda Lal became the inheritor of this zamindari in 1879. Later he got the title of Raja in 1885, Rajbahadur in 1892 and Maharaja in 1896. In 1897, the earthquake collapsed under the ruins of his house and died. In 1908, his son Maharaja Kumar Gopal Lal Roy took charge of zamindari. After the Partition in 1947, Maharaja Kumar Gopal Lal Roy died of heart failure in Kushtia while going to India on a train by packing the Rajbari accessories. The children went to India with his body and accessories. Now in the Rajbari the zamindars are part of a table-chair and chandelier wooden timber and are witnessed in time. After the assumption of Maharaja Kumar Gopal Lal Roy zamindari, construction of the present building started. In addition to skilled designers, there are about two thousand masons working in all. In 1917, the building was completed and as a result it cost about one and a half million. Made from imported white palm from Italy, this house's front staircase was made. Apart from this, the main parts of the building are red bricks, white piles and limestone.
